ACCEPTANCE POLICY

 

The mission of Leif Ericson Day School is: Teaching and caring for students; Providing an excellent academic experience; Leading in Christian ways; Preparing students for lives of faith and learning.  This mission has been established for all children.  However, the Board of Directors and administration of Leif Ericson Day School may determine that it is in the child's best interest to direct him/her to another institution of learning if the resources available at Leif Ericson Day School are not sufficient to meet the child's social, emotional, physical, or academic needs.  Thus, to ensure that a child's needs are addressed, Leif Ericson Day School has established the following criteria for acceptance:

 

I.           APPLICATION

 

             A.         A completed application must be submitted to the school office.

 

             B.          An application fee must accompany the submitted application.

 

II.         RECORDS

 

             Students with academic records that indicate reading and math grade

             equivalents lower than two grade levels below the norm could be denied

             acceptance.  In this event, students will be considered for acceptance on

             an individual basis.

 

             A.         Report cards (the current year and prior years), and the most recent

                          standardized test scores must be submitted with the prospective student’s

                          application.

 

             B.          If academic records appear satisfactory, an interview and/or entrance exam will be arranged.

 

III.        INTERVIEW/EXAM

            

             It should be noted that a student will be scheduled for an interview and/or

             entrance exam only after the school receives a completed application and application fee.  Entrance exams are given to students entering grades 1-8.

 

             A.         An interview and/or entrance exam will be arranged by the child’s

                          prospective teacher or the principal.  The school secretary will coordinate

                          arrangements, as needed.

 

             B.          The teacher or principal or the principal’s designee will conduct the interview and/or entrance exam.

            

 

IV.        SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN

 

             If the child’s records indicate any learning disability or other special needs, one    

             or all of the following applies:

 

 

             A.         All records of evaluations must be made available to the school.  If more

                          than one period a day of resource room assistance is recommended, Leif

                          Ericson Day School cannot accommodate the child.

 

             B.          If therapy, tutoring, or resource room is recommended, parents are

                          required to abide by the stated recommendations and submit on-going

                          documentation of their compliance.

 

V.         ACCEPTANCE DECISION

 

             A.         The principal and those  involved in the interview and/or entrance

                          exam will confer and make a decision based on academic records, the

                          interview and/or exam results.  The final decision is made by the

                          principal.

 

             B.          The principal will notify the parents of the final decision.  All students

                          who are accepted to Leif Ericson Day School are placed on probation for

                          the first trimester to monitor academic and social progress.
